New School Year

A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

It is a fact that in every culture people like new things. A new pair of shoes, a new set of head phones, a new phone, and so forth. I recently got e new phone, iPhone 8 which my daughter gave it to me, it is not new, but for me it is new and happy to have it.

A new school year will begin this Tuesday, August 13. It is exciting to see the anticipation and the eagerness to start everything new. New books, new school supplies, new desks and chairs, and sometimes, a new teacher. (I just have a new hair style and more wrinkles, sadly.)

However, somethings are not always new. It might be that some of the students are new, others are returning. Yet,  it is interesting that we all bring something new to the school, besides new school supplies. It well be a “new me”. Maturity, experiences, growth, all contribute to the new person that is emerging after a wonderful warm summer. A new student, or an old one, everyone is new as we move from the past to the future, from one learning experience to the next one.

For me, as an educator, a student needs the opportunity to become new, to receive the privilege of demonstrating the person that has become during the summer. In Christ every person, child or adult becomes new every day. I am looking forward to a group of young people from K to 8, eager to learn, to grow, to explore. Looking ahead, I see blessings of grace and strength granted to us in surmounting  every obstacle and every hindrance that will come our way in moving forward.

I welcome all my students, their parents, their dreams and fears, their gifts and curiosities; I welcome all. I want my students in my school. I want them here because I love them and see in them that very special human being created in the image of God. Every child or adolescent comes to school with so much potential that if not prepared I might miss it. I want to have the privilege of being their teacher and be a part of the miracle of seeing the student becoming new every day in my own eyes. What a blessing!

Welcome to a New School Year!
